4. Mawrth / Mars

Mawrth

  • Yn aml, gelwir Mawrth yn blaned goch oherwydd bod ei hwyneb wedi’i orchuddio mewn cyfansoddyn o’r enw Ocsid Haearn (a elwir yn gyffredin yn rhwd).
  • Mae’n dangos llawer o arwyddion daearegol bod dŵr wedi bod arni unwaith, sy’n awgrymu y gallai fod wedi cynnal bywyd ar un adeg.
  • Mae’r tymheredd ar wyneb Mawrth yn debyg i’r ddaear, tua 20°, hefyd mae tymhorau, capiau iâ ac atmosffer tenau
  • Archwilir y blaned Mawrth yn rheolaidd gan deithiau gwyddonol, gan ymchwilio i’r dystiolaeth am ddŵr a phosibiliadau bywyd.
  • Mae diwrnod ar Mawrth bron union yr un fath ag ar y Ddaear oherwydd ei bod yn troi tua’r un cyflymder yn fras
  • Mae’r mynydd uchaf yng nghysawd yr haul ar y blaned Mawrth ac fe’i gelwir yn Olympus Mons – mae’n 14 milltir o uchder sydd bron i dair gwaith uchder Everest.
  • Tystiolaeth o ddŵr, sy’n arwain at gwestiynau ynghylch y posibilrwydd o fywyd, yn y gorffennol neu’r presennol
  • Mae ymchwilwyr fel ‘Curiosity’ (https://mars.nasa.gov/msl/)  yn edrych ar yr wyneb ac yn cynnal profion gwyddonol, gan anfon data yn ôl i’r ddaear
  • Gyda thymhorau, ond maent yn para am ddwywaith cyhyd ag ar y Ddaear
  • Capiau iâ
  • Atmosffer tenau
  • Wedi’i enwi ar ôl y Duw Rhyfel Rufeinig, weithiau fe’i gelwir yn blaned goch

Sut y cafodd ei gwneud:

Mae Mawrth yn blaned oren lychlyd, felly fe’i gwnaed o fetel wedi’i ailgylchu ac wedi rhydu, gan wneud cyswllt hefyd â hanes diwydiannol Tanygrisiau. Gwnaed Mawrth gan blant o Ysgol Tanygrisiau, ger Blaenau Ffestiniog gyda’r artist Rachel Rosen

Mars

  • Mars is often known as the red planet because its surface is covered in a compound called Iron Oxide (more commonly known as rust).
  • It shows many geological signs of once having water which suggests that there may have once been life.
  • Temperatures at the surface of Mars are similar to earth around 20°, also has seasons, ice caps and a thin atmosphere
  • Regularly explored by scientific missions, investigating the evidence for water and possibilities of life.
  • A day on Mars is almost exactly the same as on Earth because it spins at roughly the same speed
  • The highest mountain in the solar system is on Mars and is called Olympus Mons, at 14 miles high it is nearly three times the height of Everest
  • Evidence of water leading to questions around possibility of life, past or present
  • Rovers like ‘Curiosity’ <link> are exploring the surface and conducting scientific tests, sending data back to earth
  • Has seasons but they last for twice as long as on Earth
  • Has ice caps
  • Has a thin atmosphere
  • Named after the Roman God of war it’s also sometimes called the red planet

How it was made:

Mars is a dry dusty orangey planet, so it has been made out of recycled rusted metal, also making a link to the industrial history of Tanygrisiau. Mars has been made by children from Tanygrisiau School, near Blaenau Ffestiniog with the artist Rachel Rosen
