6. Sadwrn / Saturn

Brondanw Arns / Y Ring, Llanfrothen, Garreg, Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd LL48 6AQ

  • Mae Sadwrn yn enwog am ei chylchoedd llachar (a ddarganfuwyd gan Christian Huygens yn 1659) ac er eu bod yn edrych yn hynod o gywrain, maent hyd at 1.5km o drwch.
  • Mae Sadwrn yn ‘gawr nwy’ anferth gyda chraidd o hydrogen metalig hylifol
  • Dyma’r blaned leiaf trwchus yng nghysawd yr haul – byddai’n arnofio ar ddŵr
  • Dyma’r blaned bellaf sy’n weladwy â’r llygad noeth
  • Mae ganddi graidd o hydrogen metalig hylifol
  • Mae gan Sadwrn 50 lleuad, y lleuad mwyaf Titan yw’r ail fwyaf yng nghysawd yr haul (yn ail yn unig i Ganymede) ac mae’n cynnal ei atmosffer ei hun
  • Mae ei lleuadau’n hynod o amrywiol, ac mae’n bosib i gallai o leiaf un ohonynt gynnal bywyd
  • Enw duw amaethyddiaeth a chyfoeth Rhufeinig
  • Mae tua naw gwaith lled y Ddaear, heb gynnwys y cylchoedd a fyddai’n ymestyn cyn belled ag o’r Ddaear i’r lleuad

Sut y cafodd ei gwneud:

Mae Sadwrn yn enwog am ei chylchoedd o wastraff creigiog. Mae’r blaned ei hun yn faes nwy enfawr felly mae wedi’i gwneud o ddeunyddiau ysgafn, haen o dywod a chylchoedd creigiog.  Gwnaed Sadwrn gan blant Ysgol y Garreg, Llanfrothen gyda’r artist Rachel Rosen.

Saturn

Location: Brondanw Arns / Y Ring, Llanfrothen, Garreg, Penrhyndeudraeth LL48 6AQ

  • Saturn is famous for its bright rings (which were discovered by Christian Huygens in 1659) and whilst they look incredibly delicate they are up to 1.5km thick.
  • Saturn is a huge ‘gas giant’ with a core of liquid metallic hydrogen
  • It is the least dense planets in the solar system – it would float on water
  • It is the furthest planet to be visible to the naked eye
  • It has a core of liquid metallic hydrogen
  • Saturn has 50 moons, the largest moon Titan is the second largest in the solar system (second only to Ganymede) and holds its own atmosphere
  • It’s moons are highly diverse, at least one of which may be able to support life
  • Name for the Roman God of agriculture and wealth
  • It is about nine times the width of a not including the rings which would stretch as far as from Earth to the moon

How it was made:

Saturn is famous for its rings made of rocky debris, the planet itself is a huge gassy sphere so it has been made from light materials, a layer of sand and rocky rings.  Saturn has been made by children from Carreg School, Llanfrothen with the artist Rachel Rosen.
